July 18, 2009 (GLENWOOD, Ill.) --A Cook County Sheriff officer who died in Afghanistan was honored Saturday at his funeral.Derwin Williams. 41, was recognized for his dedication as an Army National Guardsman, a husband, and a father of five children. He earned a series of military awards, including the Bronze Star and the Purple Heart.
Williams, a resident of south suburban Glenwood, died Monday when his convoy was hit by a roadside bomb.
His unit was scheduled to return home in August.
