Alderman lobby for CTA funding

October 15, 2009 (CHICAGO) Before boarding a bus to the capital, the aldermen said its time for the city and state to work together.

The CTA is facing a $300 million shortfall.

The aldermen want authority to use state capital funds for operating purposes. They also want additional bonding authority.

The aldermen say this would lessen the need for fare increases and service cuts.

CTA officials have said that lower than expected sales and real estate taxes have contributed to the shortfall.
