Best in Dough submission: White Chip Meringue Dessert Bars

ABC7 Chicago is happy to announce the 'Best in Dough' holiday cookie contest is back this year.

Recipe: White Chip Meringue Dessert Bars

Crust: 2 Cups all purpose flour; 1/2 cup 10X powdered sugar; 1 cup butter, softened. Combine flour, powdered sugar and butter with pastery blender until crumbly. Press evenly into the bottom of an ungreased 13X9 baking pan. Bake at 375 for 14-16 minutes until slightly golden. Remove from oven.

Topping: 2 cups white chocolate morsels; 1 1/4 cup chopped (coarsely)pecans, divided; 3 egg whites; 1 cup packed brown sugar. Sprinkle white chocolate morsels and 1 cup of hte nuts onto HOT crust. Beat egg whites with mixer until frothy. Gradually add brown sugar. spread meringue over the morsels and nuts. Sprinkle with remaining nuts. Bake at 375 for 15-20 minutes or until golden brown.

Serve warm or cool. Makes 2 dozen bars.
