Ill. attorney general says gov. may sell prison

December 17, 2009 (CHICAGO) Governor Quinn and President Obama want to use the facility to house prisoners now at Guantanamo Bay in Cuba.

Madigan issued a ruling saying the governor does not need the approval of the general assembly to sell the prison.

Some in Springfield had said he did need the legislature's okay. Some Republicans questioned the deal saying they fear having terrorism suspects here would make Illinois a target of attacks.
