Cook Co. to hire 500 in 2010

The Cook County Sheriff's Department plans to hire more than 500 correctional officers next year.The first class of recruits will start work next month.

The sheriff's office says the jobs are available because of a federal mandate that more officers be added at the Cook County Jail.

Dart's office says the jobs pay about $45,000 a year. They include health, dental and vision insurance. The officers will also receive a county pension.
