Daley responds to transit lawsuit claiming racism

January 7, 2010 (CHICAGO) Two CTA riders filed a federal lawsuit Wednesday claiming the state's method of distributing money for mass transit discriminates against minorities.

The lawsuit says that formula favors Metra and most of its riders are white while a large percentage of CTA riders are not.

"I think they're talking about the lack of funding for CTA, which is really true and we move all types of people black, white, Hispanic, Asian, you old throughout the metropolitan area," said Daley.

The formula to distribute more than $1 billion in mass transit funding each year has been in place since 1983.
