Haiti evacuees arrive in Chicago

January 30, 2010 (CHICAGO) The American Red Cross says five Haitians were on the flight that landed at O'Hare airport.

From there, they were taken to a new intake center on the Northwest Side.

The group will receive a meal and warm clothes and can stay as long as they like. However, they will also get help in arranging a flight if they need to continue on to another part of the country.

A Red Cross spokesperson says the organization has learned a lot from two previous groups of evacuees who traveled to Chicago.

"We learned that we needed to... Have that present," said spokesperson Rebecca Streifler.

The intake center is prepared for another group of evacuees scheduled to arrive Sunday.
