February 19, 2010 (CHICAGO) --
A judge has temporarily barred a Cook County animal shelter from arranging adoptions or selling any of the dogs seized late last week at an alleged puppy mill.Fifty-three dogs and puppies were seized from two sisters who breed designer lap dogs in rural St. Anne, Ill., which is near Kankakee.
The dogs allegedly were living in filthy conditions.
A lawyer for the sisters filed the emergency request in Kankakee County Circuit Court Thursday, stating that criminal charges hadn't been filed against either woman.
One of the sister is charged with misdemeanor animal cruelty.
