Chicago woman celebrates 110th birthday

February 27, 2010 (CHICAGO) Ethel Darden celebrated her 110th birthday with friends at Montgomery Place in the city's Hyde Park neighborhood.

Mrs. Darden was born in Dallas, Texas on February 17, 1900. She is among the oldest living African-Americans in the United States.

Despite her impressive longevity, Darden remains humble.

"I appreciate the years I've had," she told ABC7 Chicago. "They weren't too bad."

Mrs. Darden says she lives by the axiom, "A mind is a terrible thing to waste". She voted in the election earlier this month and remains active in her church.
