City donates fire truck to Haiti

March 4, 2010 (CHICAGO)

Alderman James Balcer said donating the truck is the right thing to do and it shows unity in the world. It could take several months to get the truck to Haiti but plans are in place to quickly put it to use.

"We have volunteer groups from Northern Alabama that are going to be volunteering their equipment, their time, and their effort to train up the Haitian Fire Department so they can utilize this great fire truck from the city of Chicago," said Lt. Col. Robert Garcia, Civil Affairs Forces.

The truck was originally supposed to go to Ukraine but officials there agreed it should be sent to Haiti.
