Man charged in El dye-pack burst bank robbery

April 7, 2010 (CHICAGO) Armon Watson allegedly robbed the North Community Bank at North State and Chicago Ave. Tuesday afternoon, then headed into the Red Line station on that corner. A dye-pack in the money bag Watson allegedly had exploded in the station. He was arrested on the platform of the El station.

Watson is being held without bond. He faces up to 20 years in prison.

Five ambulances were sent to the scene because Chicago Fire Department personnel at first thought there had been a small fire in the station.

Police say one person was treated at the scene for minor injuries from the dye pack explosion. Afternoon rush hour Red Line trains were temporarily rerouted to the elevated tracks.
