May 7, 2010 (CHICAGO) --The Chicago Police Department honored dozens of outstanding officers Friday, a tradition that began in 1962.The annual Police Recognition Ceremony and Luncheon took place during the afternoon at the Chicago Hilton and Towers. The event honors those who have demonstrated exceptional bravery and devotion to duty.
Among those recognized were officers injured or killed on the job, such as Officer Densey Cole II, Sgt. Alan Haymaker and Officer Alejandro Valadez.
The ceremony began when Pres. John Kennedy established National Police Month.
