Fog to blame for chain-reaction crashes in Rockford

Thick morning fog is suspected of causing several chain reaction crashes near Rockford.

Police in Ogle County say at least 12 vehicles were involved in the crash. It happened near Interstate 39 and Route 64.

A truck pulling a pig trailer apparently triggered a chain reaction crash. Other drivers didn't have time to stop for the first accident and they also crashed.

Five people were taken to the hospital with minor injuries.

Visibility was extremely low and that's the apparent cause.
