Communities celebrate Flag Day

June 14, 2010 (CHICAGO)

Alderman James Balcer hosted a ceremony Monday for the proper disposal of unserviceable flags. Wounded service men and women joined in and helped cut the flag, separating the blue from the red and white areas. Once that's done, it's no longer an American flag, and it can then be burned.

Following that ceremony, the wounded warriors took part in a solider ride bicycling event.

In northwest suburban Buffalo Grove, people gathered at Veterans Park to honor military members. They also raised United States and prisoners of war flags.
