Carlos Rubio, 67, was charged with one count of leaving the scene of an accident, causing injury and death.
On Monday, Rubio pleaded not guilty and will return to court September 6.
The crash happened on June 22 in the 2500-block of East 79th Street. Itali Hinton was in a crosswalk when she was struck and killed.
Police say Rubio stopped at first but then drove off when a group of witnesses approached his van.
