August 17, 2010 (BRAIDWOOD, Ill.) --Both reactors at the Exelon nuclear power plant in southwest suburban Braidwood remained shut down Tuesday, with the company unsure when they would start up again. The Braidwood generating station is about 60 miles southwest of Chicago. People in the immediate area have heard loud sounds of steam venting from the 2,300-megawatt plant to reduce pressure.
Exelon and the Nuclear Regulatory Commission say the situation does not pose any safety threats. They were still unsure what caused the Monday shutdown.
