Cook Co. cracking down on prostitution clientele

August 29, 2010 (LEYDEN TOWNSHIP, Ill.)

Sheriff Tom Dart said the area near O'Hare International Airport has a history of prostitution.

Dart pointed out that prostitution is not a victimless crime, and it is nothing like the movie Pretty Woman.

"The people who are being prostituted out, their lives are train wrecks at best; substance abuse, mental health issues, domestic violence, every type of thing you can think of is what occurs in their lives," Dart said.

Dart said that more than 100 men have been arrested under the county's new public morals ordinance. Their arrests have brought in nearly $50,000 for programs to help abused women.
