The Star Innovator Award is presented to the school that best exemplifies innovative math and/or science programs.
"This is an example of a very diverse school a school that stands out in academic achievements and raising the bar continually. It's an innovator it's an example of other schools can follow here in the city of Chicago," said Mayor Daley.
In recognition of its efforts, Walter Payton College Prep was awarded several grants totaling about $175,000.
