Holiday airfares see sharp increase

Increased demand and fewer seats are sending prices up sharply this year.

FareCompare.com reports domestic fares are up an average of 17-percent for holiday season travel. Some routes have soared nearly 60-percent.

Priceline.com found the national average for Thanksgiving is $383. Christmas travel was even higher, averaging around $444.

Travel agents say the best way to cut down on your ticket price is to avoid flying on the most popular days, such as the Sunday after Thanksgiving.
