Ash borer-infected trees found at Morton Arboretum

November 16, 2010 7:25:44 PM PST
A tree killing pest has made its way into the Morton Arboretum, but park officials say it comes as no surprise.

Officials there tell ABC 7 staff found the emerald ash borer on four ash trees. Park officials had been expecting the bug. They have now removed the infested trees and hope insecticides will kill ash borer larvae.

The pest has already killed tens of millions of ash trees in North America.

Illinois has about 130 million ash trees. Nine thousand of them are at the arboretum.
