A crackdown is underway on illegal parking in spots reserved for the disabled.

Illinois Secretary of State officers were out at Woodfield mall Friday catching culprits in the act. They were also patrolling shopping centers in Oak Brook and Orland Park.

The fine for illegally using a placard -- or disability license plate without the presence of the authorized holder -- is $500.

Offenders could also have their licenses suspended for 30 days.
