Chicago landmark calendars get personal

December 15, 2010 (CHICAGO)

And at a company called Print Life Media on the Southwest Side they have turned calendars into you -- your name -- on 12 classic Chicago photos.

"We came up with the idea of personalizing calendars by embedding people's names over images," said Anthony Puisis, president and CEO at Print Life Media.

First of all, the photos of Chicago landmarks, then the blending of the pictures and the customers names.

"Take a few hundred pictures and we design and erase anything we don't want and then put your personalized name in the image," said Steve Grimes, software programmer with Print Life Media.

This is what you might call a total dot com company. You can't come to the office and buy these calendars. You have to go to www.printlifemedia.com . And then you, or a loved one or friend, can be the Michigan Avenue Bridge.

"They can choose from over sixty different images, five different sets of images and choose what they want. They preview it, purchase it right on site and it comes right to our building and right to the press," said Mike Amberlan, vice president at Print Life Media.

The calendars come in different sizes and range and cost up to $19. They're starting to sell very well and that just might have something to do with seeing our names in print.

"It really makes you feel like it's a special product made specifically for you. It's a great stocking stuffer. It's something you can get for under 20 bucks," Puisis said.

"Two years ago when we started this we were pumping out probably a calendar an hour. Now we're doing just under a hundred an hour."
