Study: TV shows sexualizing young girls

December 16, 2010

The study uncovered a troubling trend.

It analyzed the top 25 prime time scripted programs aimed at viewers aged 12-to-17, including Glee, 90210, Gossip Girl, Law and Order, and House.

Researchers found underage female characters were more often depicted in a sexual way than adult female characters. It is more likely the underage characters exhibited visual sexual behavior as opposed to just dialogue.

Seventy-five percent of the shows did not contain an "S" rating for sexual content.
