Walker creates commission to find government waste

January 4, 2011 (MADISON, Wis.)

Walker signed an executive order on Monday, his first day in office, creating the commission. He made the order public Tuesday.

Walker touted the commission during the campaign last fall as a way to help the state dig out of a $3 billion two-year budget shortfall. He wants the group to review all state agency budgets and recommend ways to make government smaller.

The commission will consist of Mike Huebsch, the secretary of the Department of Administration, or one of his designees and someone representing private Wisconsin employers. It will also include a Republican and Democrat from both the state Senate and Assembly.

The group's first report is due July 1.
