Joliet elevator inspectors suspended after toddler's fall

January 28, 2011 (JOLIET, Ill.)

It happened Sunday at the plaza hotel.

Surveillance video provided by the Joliet Police Department shows the boy leaving his family's room and heading to the elevator. He then flipped an emergency switch and fell 30 feet down the elevator shaft.

The boy was hospitalized for a head injury. His condition is not being released.

The Illinois State Fire Marshal, which oversees elevator inspections, will decide whether the inspectors are subject to further disciplinary action.
