Suspect killed in attempted armored car robbery ID'd

Police say a Garda truck made a pick-up at a Family Dollar Store at Homan and Chicago Friday. They say a guard was carrying a money bag when a suspect put a gun in his face. Another suspect stuck a gun in his back, police said.

The guard shot one suspect, and truck's the driver shot the other.

Neither guard was hurt.

Medical examiners have identified the suspect who died as 52-year-old Jimmy Townsend, who was a convicted felon.

Authorities say he used a homemade fake gun during the robbery attempt.

The other suspect was reportedly in critical condition Saturday at Mt. Sinai hospital.
