Bit of alcohol may prevent heart disease

February 23, 2011

The findings in the British Medical Journal echo other research on the benefits of alcohol. This latest study showed a 14-to-25-percent reduction in heart disease in moderate drinkers compared with people who have never had alcohol.

Another article by the same research group shows alcohol also increased good cholesterol levels.

As one researcher put it, it strengthens the argument that a little bit does you good but a lot does you harm, and that can make a public health message hard to convey.
