Mokena school board votes to lay off teachers, increase fees

February 24, 2011 (MOKENA, Ill.)

Wednesday night, the school board voted to lay off seven teachers and eight teacher aids, as well as cut all extracurricular activities including physical education and music programs for next school year.

Registration, technology and locker fees are also going up. The cost of lunches will increase by 50 cents.

School officials say some of the cuts could be restored if district voters approve a property tax rate increase in an April 5 referendum.
