Mag: Women own average of 17 pairs of shoes

March 16, 2011

ShopSmart magazine says the average woman owns 17 pairs, with each costing around $49.

Just four years ago, women had an average of 19 pairs.

Thirteen percent of women own more than 30 pairs.

Analysts say shopping remains a feel-good recreation, and shoe shopping doesn't require getting naked in front of a dressing room mirror. And these days, almost 40 percent of footwear is purchased online, making it even more tempting to indulge.

Only 8 percent of women wear high heels on a regular basis. Sixty percent bring along flats when they do go for those stilettos.
