AG: Flavored malt beverage is 'binge-in-a-can'

April 21, 2011 (CHICAGO)

In a letter sent to Pabst on Thursday Madigan accused the product of promoting binge drinking and glamorizing alcohol abuse.

Fifteen other state's attorneys general joined Madigan in sending the letter, which details concerns over Blast and calls the malt beverage a "binge-in-a-can."

The official product name is Blast by Colt 45. It is a malt beverage that comes in flavors such as Strawberry-Lemonade and Blueberry-Pomegranate.

According to the letter, "The 12 percent alcohol concentration of Blast means a single 23.5 ounce container is equivalent to drinking an entire six-pack of typical American beer."

Pabst released a statement saying, in part, that Blast is only meant to be consumed by those above legal drinking age and that the alcohol content of Blast is clearly marked on its packaging.
