The body was found Sunday morning in the Calumet City Playfield near Calumet City.
So far the medical examiner has been unable to identify the victim. A spokesman would only say she appeared to have suffered facial trauma.
Area residents like Yolon Menifield are concerned.
"We're a little shook up, just gotta be careful out here now. Kids come out here to play, people walk their dog, a lot of people barbecue back here, sit back here, so we gotta take precautions," Menifield said.
An autopsy is scheduled for Monday.
