David Axelrod on hand for Misericordia fundraiser

April 25, 2011 (CHICAGO)

David Axelrod and his wife Susan were at Manny's Deli Monday morning. They collected donations for Misericordia, located on the city's North Side.

The organization cares for more than 600 children and adults with mild to severe developmental disabilities.

The Axelrods' daughter Lauren is a resident at Misericordia. They encouraged people to make a donation this Friday during the organization's annual Candy Days Drive.

"People with developmental disabilities need places like Misericordia to live fulfilled lives, to live happy lives," said Axelrod. "I've seen it in my own daughter's life, and I want to see that available for many, many others."

Misericordia also provides its residents with employment opportunities, health and fitness guidance, and physical and speech therapy.
