Protesters seek to repeal Defense of Marriage Act

June 11, 2011 (CHICAGO)

Demonstrators from numerous gay-rights advocacy groups gathered near Halsted and Roscoe. They said despite the fact that Illinois now recognizes civil unions between same-sex partners, those couples are still not afforded the rights and responsibilities of "marriage" in the eyes of the federal government.

They say the Defense of Marriage Act is unconstitutional and should be repealed to bring about marital equality for all people.
