Tulsa dealing with prolific mushroom growth

October 20, 2011 (TULSA, Okla.)

They look gross but they actually can be good for the soil, according to experts.

Horticulturist Betty Hazelton says there are many different types of "shrooms" and not all are safe.

There is one called Dog Vomit, Slime Mold. One called Stink Horn mushroom and like the name says it's horn shaped and smells bad. Keep your dogs out of them or you might have real dog vomit to clean up.

Hazelton says the mushrooms break down old mulch and decaying material which helps put nutrients back into the ground.
