Quinn presents award at abortion-rights luncheon

Despite strong criticism from Catholic bishops, Gov. Pat Quinn gave an award Thursday to a woman who supports abortion rights.

The governor, who is Catholic, honored Jennie Goodman during a Personal Political Action Committee luncheon.

Quinn hugged Goodman, who is a rape victim, and called her a genuine hero for helping women who have suffered from violence. Both received a standing ovation

"I am here to present the other side of the story of somebody who was raped, conceived a child, and had that child, and can tell you that it was the best decision I ever made in my life," said Maggie Higgins.

Higgins was among pro-life demonstrators who backed Cardinal Francis George and other Illinois bishops. The bishops accused
