S. Side pileup leaves 2 in serious to critical condition

The accident happened at about 7:30 a.m. Sunday morning at the intersection of 106th and Ewing.

Witnesses said an Oldsmobile was speeding south on Ewing, possibly going as fast as 100 miles per hour.

The car ran a red light and slammed into several cars and an SUV.

Some of the injured had to be extricated from their vehicles.

The driver of the speeding car was one of the most seriously hurt.

For a time the CTA had to reroute buses, but those operations are back to normal.
