Costco tops Consumer Reports survey

A wholesale warehouse club has been recognized as the best place to shop.

Costco was rated number one in a new survey of shoppers by Consumer Reports.

Readers rated their overall experience both in store and with online purchases.

Consumers rated stores including Wal-Mart, Target, Kmart, Macy's, Kohl's, JCPenney and Sears. Sam's Club was also rated.

Wal-Mart received the lowest rating for customer service.

Membership-based Costco rated best overall for the quality of its merchandise. Costco's website was also praised by consumers for being easy to use.
