Conviction vacated, Aurora man out of jail after 12 years

March 6, 2012 (AURORA, Ill.)

In 2000, 30-year-old Jonathan Moore was convicted of killing one man and trying to kill another. Last year, an informant told police someone else committed the crimes and new witnesses came forward.

A Kane County judge granted a petition by prosecutors to vacate Moore's conviction.

"An assistant state's attorney has the unique responsibility in the criminal justice system to seek the truth no matter when that truth comes. We embrace that responsibility and privilege knowing that our integrity is judged by our action," said Kane County State's Attorney Joseph McMahon.

No one else has been charged in the case.
