Lawsuits over graphic images on cigarette packs

March 19, 2012 (CHICAGO)

A federal appeal court has upheld the proposed change. The lawsuit against the label changes was filed in Kentucky but today a federal appeals court in Ohio voted to uphold the new law.

A separate lawsuit aimed at blocking the labeling changes had a different outcome. Last month, a federal judge in D.C. blocked the move claiming it violated free speech. The changes set to take place in September would involve packaging with images of people dying from smoking related disease and more.

Oral arguments on the appeal are scheduled for April.
