Talking to yourself could have mental benefits

People who talk to themselves while searching for specific objects may be able to find them faster.

Previous studies have suggested that when children talk to themselves it helps guide their behavior.

So researchers decided to test the theory in adults and reported the results in the quarterly Journal of Experimental Psychology.

They say although their study provides evidence that self-directed speech affects some aspect of the visual search process. It doesn't necessarily make you more efficient at locating your target.
