Study: Berries may help brain function

April 26, 2012

This study in the Annals of Neurology found that women with the highest intake of berries appeared to delay cognitive aging by up to two-and-a-half years.

Cognition refers to brain activity such as thinking, remembering and reasoning.

The fruits are rich in substances known as flavonoids which help protect the body's cells from damage and reduce inflammation.

In this study woman consumed more than one serving a week of blueberries and ate strawberries more than twice a week.
