A World War II airman from Chicago was laid to rest Tuesday at Arlington National Cemetery, nearly 68 years after his plane was shot down over Germany.

Several family members from the Chicago area attended the service for Lieutenant Emil Wasilewski. His remains were not discovered until 1991 in the former East Germany.

It took several years and a DNA sample from a nephew in Downers Grove to identify Wasilewski's remains.

Wasilewski was buried with full military honors.
