Two men were wounded in a shooting on the city's South Side Wednesday afternoon.

The shooting took place near the intersection of 71st and Wabash, which is just one block from the Charles S. Deneen Elementary School. The shooting had nothing to do with the school, officials said, and no children were injured.

The track-e school was in session and children were held inside the building, as is part of the protocol when police activity dictates, until the scene was cleared.

Police say the two men who were injured, 21 and 26 years old, were shot while inside a white BMW X3, which remains on the scene. The BMW crashed with another car, but officials are still looking for a third vehicle, from which the bullets were fired.

Early indications, police say, are that this is a possible robbery.
