Chicago snow accumulation climbs; Another Alberta Clipper headed this way

February 4, 2013 (CHICAGO)

Another Alberta Clipper is on its way, and is expected to drop another 1 to 2 inches of snow Tuesday afternoon.

Monday's 2.6 inches of snow is the largest snow event of the season.

In total, 4.9 inches of snow has fallen in the past four days. That's more than half the total accumulation of 7.1. inches for this winter.

Tuesday's expected Alberta Clipper is the fourth in a series of five to drop snow in the Chicago area. The bulk of that 1-2 inches will fall north of I-88. The last round is due on Thursday, and could mix with sleet or freezing rain.

This is the longest stretch of days with 0.1 inch or more measurable snowfall since January 2009, where Chicago got hit for eight straight days.

That record is expected to hold. By the weekend, warmer air will move in from the southwest, and rain is expected.
