McDonald's customer service could use some improvement, the company thinks.

McDonald's is asking franchise owners to improve customer service, according to a Wall Street Journal report from earlier this week, because complaints about restaurant employees are on the rise.

The paper said in a webcast that McDonald's executives told restaurant owners customer service complaints -- including rude workers and unprofessionalism-- are the main issue, and that one in five McDonald's customer complaints are related to friendliness issues.

McDonald's did not comment on the report.
