Firearm, prostitution charges after Deerfield motel shooting

June 6, 2013 (DEERFIELD, Ill.)

Marvin C. Smith, 27, of Chicago, is charged with aggravated discharge of a firearm and unlawful use of a weapon by a felon. – Class 2 Felony Gloria Y. Martinez, 18, of Elkhart, Ind., was charged with prostitution.

On Monday around 4:40 p.m., the Deerfield Police Department responded to the Red Roof Inn, 340 S. Waukegan Road, for the report of shots fired in the parking lot after a man was seen shooting at a vehicle with a handgun.

Police believed the Smith was staying at the Red Roof Inn but say several rooms were checked, and he was not found, until the next day when police spotted him with Martinez at the Deerbrook Mall, near the Red Roof Inn. The victim also fled the scene.

The two suspects were taken to the Deerfield Police Department for further questioning from the mall. The victim was then located and interviewed. That person was not injured. Police say a weapon was recovered.

Martinez was released on bond Wednesday. Smith was given a $500,000 bond Thursday.
