Evacuated residents were back in their homes Tuesday after an underground pipeline exploded in a western Illinois cornfield.

The explosion happened before midnight in Erie located near the Quad Cities.

Huge flames shot 300 feet into the air. They could be seen as far away as Davenport, Iowa.

The pipeline was carrying a mixture of ethane and propane. The cause of the explosion is not known.

No one was hurt. About 80 families living within a mile radius were evacuated as a precaution.
