When the winter months set in, good old-fashioned dishes like a winter fruit compote can be delicious.

Recipe for Winter Fruit Compote

Difficulty: Easy
Prep time: 10 minutes
Cook time: 10 minutes
Serves: 4

Ingredients:
3 oz. dried figs, quartered
3 oz..dried apricots, quartered
2 oz..dried cherries
3 oz. golden raisins
2 pears, peeled, cored and diced
2 Tablespoons lemon juice
2 cups apple juice or cider
1/2 cup sugar

Preparation:

1. Combine all the ingredients in a sauce pan and bring to a simmer.

2. Cook until pears are tender.

3. Remove from heat and serve at room hot, warm, or cold on top of ice cream, cake, pancakes, or just on its own for dessert or breakfast.
