Chicago plows, trucks move to residential streets; No garbage pickup Monday

January 6, 2014 (CHICAGO)

Crews first worked to clear main routes and Lake Shore Drive after a snow storm hit over the weekend.

"Now that the snow has stopped, vehicles will begin salting and plowing side and residential streets," according to statement from the department. "Snow removal equipment will focus on ensuring side and residential streets are safe and passable for motorists."

Residents who are digging out their own cars are asked not to throw the snow back into the streets. Instead, aim for the parkways and ground between sidewalks and roads.

Crews will continue to monitor main roads because of blowing snow.

Also, on Monday, Streets and Sanitation suspended garbage and recycling pickup for Monday. Instead sanitation workers will be assigned to snow removal. The city plans to resume garbage collection on Tuesday.
