Police are warning South Side businesses and residents about an increase in armed robberies this month.

Two armed robberies were reported by businesses on Tuesday evening in the Greater Grand Crossing and South Shore neighborhoods, police say.

The incidents occurred in the 0-100 block and the 2100 block of East 71st Street.

In the robberies, the suspect enters a business and pretends to shop before displaying a silver handgun and announcing a robbery, police said.

The suspect is described as a male between the ages of 25 and 35 and about 5-foot-8 to 6 feet tall.
